YOUTHFUL COMPOSITIONS
My first real composition, at the age of 12 – a sextet for oboe and strings:
At the age of 14, I set the whole of Coleridge’s poem The Ancient Mariner, for voices and a huge orchestra.
I set this poem again in 2009, and this version was first performed in Switzerland in 2011.
My first paid commission at the age of 18. The main stipulation was that there had to be a tune in it!
A string trio from my avant-garde phase at college:
My most active period as a conductor in Switzerland. At this time I was regularly conducting two orchestras and three choirs.
